Junior Tennis

Junior tennis is the mainstay of our coaching programme and we are pleased to confirm that Club Coach  Siobhan MacLeod. LTA level 3 coach will be running the junior coaching programme with Tennis for Tots and Family Tennis.

We provide coaching and playing opportunities from pre-school age upwards using qualified coaches and Level 1 & 2 coaching assistants as necessary to meet the LTA coach/player ratios guidelines. Competitive playing opportunities are available in local, regional and national competitions, and we enter competitions such as The
Road to Wimbledon and AEGON Team Tennis when member interest is shown. Support and encouragement is given to juniors interested in attaining Tennis Leaders or Level 1 Coaching Assistants qualifications. We also provide taster sessions in the local primary schools from time to time.

We use the LTA 3-stage mini tennis programme where tennis is modified for younger or inexperienced players allowing all the skills and tactics of the game to be learned and developed in an interesting and fun way.

The 3 stages are:

1 Mini Tennis RED (aged 8 and under) - emphasis is on developing movement, co-ordination and ball skills, an introduction to the game and above all FUN!!

2 Mini Tennis ORANGE (ages 8 and 9) - play is on a three quarter size tennis court with a ball that bounces at an appropriate height. Emphasis is on playing the game, competition and hitting all shots.

3 Mini Tennis GREEN (ages 10 and under) - the final progression before children move to tennis played on a full size court, with a ball that is slightly softer and lighter than the full tennis ball.

Juniors aged 11 and over will use standard yellow tennis balls.
